The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation host the 2019 National Finals of Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest, a program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. On May 1, the nine finalists will vie for the title of Poetry Out Loud National Champion and a $20,000 award. This event will be hosted by Elizabeth Acevedo and will feature a performance by Kansas City-based mother/son duo Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear.
The national finals will be webcast live at www.arts.gov. The event is free and open to the public; no tickets or reservations are required.
