In 1998, artist Sonya Clark began a project loosely based on collaborative artworks such as the Names AIDS Memorial Quilt Project. Today, more than 5,000 people from all over the world have contributed handmade beaded prayer packets to her Beaded Prayers Project installation. In this talk, Clark shares her inspiration for the project: beads used as cross-cultural metaphors for society and beads as memory devices.
