DESCRIPTION:As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War
  II\, this conference series brings together leading thinkers from the Uni
 ted States and China to examine the legacy of World War II for the U.S.-Ch
 ina relationship. During the war\, American and Chinese forces fought side
  by side against Japan\, but now\, eight decades later\, the former allies
  find themselves locked in strategic competition. Do Americans and Chinese
  remember this shared history differently? What lessons from wartime coope
 ration might inform today's tensions? And how can historical understanding
  contribute to navigating an increasingly complex bilateral relationship?\
 n\nThis session will feature a keynote speech on the transformation of U.S
 .-China relations from World War II through the Chinese Civil War and Cold
  War to the present day by Wang Jisi\, Professor in the School of Internat
 ional Studies at Peking University\, followed by a fireside chat with Evan
  Medeiros\, Penner Family Chair in Asian Studies at Georgetown University.

 mer military and diplomatic officials\, and policy experts will examine th
 e roots of contemporary tensions\, moderated by David Finkelstein\, distin
