About this Event
500 17th Street NW, Washington DC 20006
American Made is a collaborative project between the Museum Studies and Interaction Design programs at the Corcoran School of the Arts & Design.
As the United States commemorates its 250th year, we critically examine how this nation is constructed and imagined. American Made gathers works spanning the nation’s history, ranging from a hyperlocal to a national perspective. Representing an array of artists and media, these works tell a story that contests the myth of a singular American collective identity. They engage with the country’s unfinished work—its history of perseverance, creativity, and victory, but also its erasures and violence. American Made encourages us to consider how people resist authority, how places are redefined, and how symbols are reshaped to meet changing needs.
The exhibition includes objects from the GW Collection and the Textile Museum spanning over two hundred years and representing eleven states and Washington, D.C.
