Please join the GW Department of Chemistry for our annual Caress Lecture featuring this year's award recipient, Markus Kraft, professor of chemical engineering at the University of Cambridge. Professor Kraft will discuss the way digital chemistry technologies such as machine learning, knowledge engineering and laboratory automation are transforming material discovery for urgent challenges in energy and healthcare. He will outline a cohesive framework that integrates advanced databases, AI models, ontologies and robotic platforms to address bottlenecks in chemical research.

Professor Kraft will introduce his brainchild, The World Avatar project, which “aims to create a digital ‘avatar’ of the real world.” This project produces a collaborative digital ecosystem to prevent siloed data that hinders innovation. The World Avatar addresses research and commercial issues relating to digital interoperability. A brief reception will follow. Visit the Department of Chemistry website for details.
