Join us for our first simulation of the 2023-2024 academic year, in partnership with the Elliott School's Leadership, Ethics, and Practice Initiative (LEAP). In Perilous Peace, participants delve into the legal, ethical, and political ramifications of the upcoming peace discussions between the National Liberation Army and the Government of Colombia.

The recent six-month ceasefire between the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Government of the Republic of Colombia, presents the potential of a peace agreement with the ELN, which has been at war with the government for the past 60 years. Now on the fifth cycle of peace talks, the ELN and the Government of the Republic of Colombia are negotiating the actual terms of the peace agreement: How will the ELN disband? How will Colombia achieve justice for victims and survivors?

Both sides have a vested interest in cementing the ceasefire and ending the conflict. However, internal divisions, and various political, security, and humanitarian issues threaten to shatter the fragile peace. Will the sides work together and create a plan for peace, or will the negotiations crumble, subjecting Colombia to further violence?

Perilous Peace will take place on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 from 11:00 AM EST to 5:00 PM EST. This simulation will be held in-person at GWU's Funger Hall, 2201 G St NW, Washington, DC 20052.
