Gallery 102 presents “In the Making” by ArtReach GW
An exhibition of student artwork

Washington, DC - George Washington University Corcoran School of the Arts and Design’s Gallery 102 presents artwork from youth in the ArtReach GW program. “In the Making,” highlights the diverse artistic explorations of DC area students through six different courses:  Fashion & Upcycling: Design and Sustainability, Developing Young Artists, Character Design, Digital Design: Architecture, Archi-builder: Lego and Portfolio Development Painting.  Students transformed clothing into unique garments using sewing and fabric manipulation techniques, refined their painting skills through lessons in color theory and composition, designed and built scale models of vacation rentals, created original designs for animated characters learning anatomy and shape language, and re-imagined old buildings using 3D modeling techniques.  Classes were led by local artist Simone Agoussoye, Wes Holloway (GW Corcoran Faculty and Alum), Courtney Davis (ArtReach Alum), local fashion designer Syreeta Herbet, local architect Ian Walker (Drummond Projects), and local architect Jesus Alfonso (KTGY).  Join us for the opening celebration on Thursday, December 5th from 6 to 8 pm to celebrate the innovative spirit and artistic growth of our youth!

ArtReach GW is a community-based arts program offering free, high-quality visual arts education through classes, exhibitions, and events to students, families, and community members in DC Wards 7 & 8 and surrounding areas. As a part of George Washington University (GW)’s Honey W. Nashman Center of Civic Engagement and Public Service, ArtReach GW offers a fun and supportive space for participants to discover their potential through visual arts. In addition to gaining tangible art skills, students sharpen their civic, emotional and intellectual skills by being part of a community of passionate and engaged learners made up of GW staff, alumni, and students and local teaching artists.
