Thinking about studying a less commonly taught language? Learn more about the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) from CLS Alumni who recently returned from their summer programs. Alumni will share their experiences abroad and answer your questions about the application process, language study, and life overseas.

The CLS Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and offers 8–10 weeks of fully funded overseas language study each summer. Current language study programs include: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu. Applications open in early October and are due nationally in mid-November.
