Associate Dean Singer-Freeman recently published two papers exploring student views of common teaching practices and evaluating the extent to which these practices increased or decreased student stress. This research revealed that clustered deadlines, unclear instructions, pop quizzes, high-stakes assignments, and cold calling created the most stress and policies that allow grade recovery, clear instructions, feeling known by the professor, and flexible deadlines alleviated the most stress. The key findings from these papers will serve as a jumping off point for discussing where potential student pain-points in classes might be reduced through some simple changes.

This workshop is presented by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). The CTE provides comprehensive, integrated solutions for instructors in search of teaching solutions. If you need feedback on assignment or syllabus design, advice on teaching methods, or ideas for new activities, consider booking a consultation with the CTE.

All sessions are free to GW students, faculty, staff, and alumni. GW has an institutional commitment to ensuring that all of our programs and events are accessible for all individuals.
