Join the DTAIS fellows, faculty and community for our Summer Incubator project feedback sesssions, where fellows, working in teams or individually, prototype research paths using the incubator projects that have been identified in collaboration with faculty mentors and industry partners. The term “prototype” means different things in different disciplines – here, we mean any research activity that can buy down risk on a project by proving (or disproving) the feasibility of some aspect of it or the longer-term research agenda. The idea is to practice aspects of research execution and experiment with a potential research topic and, typically, data set. Experimentation, iteration and cross-disciplinary insights – and capturing that learning – are valued over a polished final research product. Put another way, a final presentation that explains what was tried, why it didn’t work and what was learned from it in a way that will inform the next effort is more valuable than a nominally working prototype that may never address the core issue.
