In recent years, the world has witnessed a global trend towards conservatism, especially in the developed countries. Under this background, the US presidential election concluded with Donald Trump becoming only the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms in the US.

Even before being elected, Trump did not shy away from vehemently advocating for an increase in economic protectionism, which was followed by his recent efforts to increase the tariffs on Mexican, Canadian, and Chinese products. Although many countries expressed disapproval of these economic measures, Trump ventures further by saying that he will implement “reciprocal tariffs”.

What are the implications of these policies for the global community? How will the other countries respond? How will America’s protectionism develop, and what can we expect from the Trump administration in the future? These are all issues centered on the panel’s discussion.
