About this Event
The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is hosting a two-part virtual workshop series titled "Grant Proposal Planning and Writing in a Changing Federal Funding Landscape”.
The sessions will take place on Zoom on Wednesday(s) June 4th and June 11th from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. The goal of these sessions is to provide participants with the fundamentals and best practices in grant development while offering tips on the grant seeking approach in response to recent changes in the federal funding landscape.
Session 1: Finding Grant Funding
Wednesday June 4, 2025; 11:00 am–2:00 pm
In this session, after an overview of the grant seeking process, you will learn how to find grant funding to support your research, teaching, and public service activities in today's environment. A four-step process will help match your needs with sponsor priorities, allowing you to pick the sponsors that have the highest probability of funding your initiatives. From this session you will learn how to: tell a financial story; identify basic resources for identifying sponsors; understand sponsors’ “values glasses” and match your needs with sponsor funding priorities.
Session 2: Persuasive Proposal Writing
Wednesday June 11, 2025; 11:00 am–2:00 pm
In this session you will learn what sponsors expect to see in a grant proposal – and how to write persuasively in today's environment. Micro case studies will illustrate writing pitfalls and stimulate discussion about ways to improve your narrative. From this session you will learn how to: describe the primary elements in grant proposals; recognize the types of details that sponsors expect; appeal effectively to grant reviewers and avoid common grant proposal writing mistakes.
Workshop Facilitator
The workshops will be facilitated by Jeremy T. Miner, M.A., of Miner and Associates and the University of Wisconsin. In addition to developing and administering proposals to public and private sponsors, Miner has served as a federal grant reviewer and helped private foundations streamline their grant guidelines. His successful grant writing techniques have generated millions of grant dollars for many nonprofits.
Registration is required for attendance.
The Zoom link for the session will be provided after registration, shortly before the date of the workshop.
