The Enduring Challenge: History of Diversity in the Foreign Service This presentation will highlight how the Department of State, as a bureaucratic institution, has responded to the call for greater diversity in its Foreign Service. Based on new archival research, the presentation will focus on newly discovered events and people that broaden and deepen our understanding of how the Foreign Service has reacted to the concept and need for inclusivity and to the individuals who have advocated for it.
