About this Event
2130 H Street NW, Washington DC 20052
"Git" is a version control system that is commonly used to collaboratively work on code - sharing code with others, tracking and visualizing changes over time, and proposing changes to shared code repositories. "Github" is an online platform that integrates with Git to make sharing and collaborating code online even simpler.
In this workshop, we'll practice using some of the core functionality of Git and Github - including downloading code from Github, "committing" changes to the code, and "pushing" our code to Github.
If you would like assistance with any or all of the following setup, please plan to attend the 10 AM - Noon session for help! For the sake of time, we will be unable to assist with this during the 2 PM - 4 PM session.
Ahead of the workshop, participants should register for a free account on Github. If you are using a Windows operating system, download Git. Participants should also connect to Github via SSH.
This workshop is part of the Open Source Solutions series for GW community members looking to use open source tools like Python, R, and QGIS for data collection, analysis, and visualization. To learn more about open source tools, open science, or open scholarship at GW, visit the Open Source Program Office’s website.
All sessions are free to GW students, faculty, staff, and alumni. GW has an institutional commitment to ensuring that all of our programs and events are accessible for all individuals. If you require any accommodations to participate in this event, please contact libraryevents@gwu.edu at least 72 business hours (3 business days) prior to the event.
