DESCRIPTION:Attendees will learn basic skills in QGIS\, a free and open sou
 rce geographic information system\, including how to work with the fundame
 ntal building blocks of GIS analysis - points\, polygons\, and lines. In t
 his session\, we will create and format a map of DC displaying wards\, cen
 sus tracts with demographic information\, and public schools. No prior exp
 erience in GIS is required!\n\nParticipants should download and install QG
 IS on their personal device to fully participate in this workshop.\n\nThis
  workshop is part of the Visualizing Data and Presenting Your Research ser
 ies for those looking for creative and effective ways to communicate their
  research findings to a wide audience. Workshops focus on the tools for vi
 sual communication using maps\, images\, research posters\, podcasts\, vid
