About this Event
Why did the mainstream media fail so spectacularly in the lead-up to the Iraq War? Has the press learned any lessons from the early 2000s, or are journalists today repeating the very same mistakes?
Join the GW JQAS chapter on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00pm to attend "Bad News: How the Media Marched Us to War in Iraq and Beyond," an event hosted by the Quincy Institute. Students will have the opportunity to hear from Reuters’ Jonathan Landay, one of the few mainstream journalists to challenge the administration’s WMD claims, Responsible Statecraft’s Kelley Beaucar Vlahos, who took on Bush’s war policies from heterodox conservative platforms, and Jewish Currents’ Peter Beinart, a one-time Iraq war supporter turned leading media critic — for a discussion moderated by Breaking Points’ Krystal Ball, a clarion voice in modern media for independent analysis on U.S. foreign policy.
For all those that are interested in attending, please RSVP here.
