Please join us for a brief presentation and interactive discussion with Dr. Chae-Chun Gim of Yeungnam University in South Korea. In addition to his position at Yeungham University, Dr. Gim has served as Education Secretary for the President of the Republic of Korea (2013-14), Vice-Minister of Education for the Republic of Korea (2015), and President of the Korean Educational Development Institute (2016-17). Dr. Gim holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Educational Policy from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Gim will speak about his experience developing university education in Korea through BK21 (Brain Korea 21) and other initiatives; he will also engage in discussion with the audience.
BK21 (Brain Korea 21) Program in South Korea Brain Korea 21 (BK21) is a flagship government initiative aimed at fostering high-level research and graduate education in South Korea. Launched in 1999 by the Ministry of Education, it seeks to enhance the nation's competitiveness by funding universities, graduate students, and research projects in key academic disciplines. The program has undergone multiple phases, each with evolving objectives tailored to the needs of higher education and national development.
