The workshop will introduce users to basic circuit building and sensing techniques using a microcontroller. Participants will build a theremin-styled analog musical instrument using a photocell, an Arduino microcontroller, and a small loudspeaker. Participants will be able to use light to change the pitch of their digital instrument and learn how to write code to quantize musical notes to a Western musical scale. This workshop will use the new Arduino web editor to write the requisite program and load it onto the microcontroller via USB.

Arduino is available on computers in the CREATE Digital Studio.
