The Office of Health Policy and Population Science invites Dr. Allison P. Squires to discuss the mental health impact of COVID-19 on the global nursing workforce.
Dr. Allison P. Squires is a Professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and Director of the Global Consortium of Nursing and Midwifery Studies (GCNMS), an 82-country research consortium. Her research focuses on two main areas: examining the global impact of COVID-19 on nursing/midwifery workforces, and improving health outcomes for immigrants and refugees, particularly regarding language barriers in healthcare.
She has authored over 200 publications and serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Nursing Studies. Prior to academia, she worked as a staff nurse in organ transplant and as an educator for 11 years. Dr. Squires holds a Ph.D. from Yale University, MSN from Duquesne University, and BSN from the University of Pennsylvania.
She was named the 2019-2020 Distinguished Nurse Scholar in Residence for the National Academy of Medicine and received the Outstanding Mentor Award from Academy Health in 2023. She currently accepts Ph.D. students interested in global health, migration and immigrant health, and health services research.
