As legacies of imperialism, museums have long displayed African material culture in isolation, stripped of the Indigenous contexts that shape their significance and meanings. ONCE KNOWN joins growing anti-colonial curatorial interventions to reclaim these lost contexts, histories, and narratives, challenging museum practices that distort, objectify, fetishize, and decontextualize African tangible forms.
