This panel discusses rural women’s rights to bodily autonomy and the link with owning and inheriting land. For example, a field study from the Brazilian organization Espaço Feminista shows that the legal procedures necessary to reclaim land that is rightfully theirs is prohibitively expensive for most women, who also often do not fully understand the scope of their rights due to a lack of education and gender discriminatory norms. This panel discusses successful approaches to transforming and implementing laws/policies that give women autonomy over their own bodies and support them to reclaim their inheritance.
