DESCRIPTION:This panel discusses rural women’s rights to bodily autonomy
and the link with owning and inheriting land. For example\, a field study
from the Brazilian organization Espaço Feminista shows that the legal pro
cedures necessary to reclaim land that is rightfully theirs is prohibitive
ly expensive for most women\, who also often do not fully understand the s
cope of their rights due to a lack of education and gender discriminatory
norms. This panel discusses successful approaches to transforming and impl
ementing laws/policies that give women autonomy over their own bodies and
support them to reclaim their inheritance.\n\nStudent Panelists:\n\nBea
