About this Event
Please join faculty-in-residence, Dr. Donaldson Conserve, and GW undergraduate students, Bukola Rinola and Mallory Durkin, from his research team to learn about the students' experience with conducting research, developing an abstract for conferences, presenting at conferences, writing a research paper, and ultimately publishing in a scientific journal.
Bukola is a fourth-year undergraduate student at George Washington University, majoring in public health on a pre-medical track with a micro-minor in health equity. She is also an MPH candidate at the Milken Institute of Public Health concentrating on Maternal and Child health. She is passionate about Black maternal health and addressing health disparities and inequities that disproportionately impact the reproductive health of Black women. She is also interested in learning more about the interconnectedness between a mother's health and its impact on the child's health outcomes. Bukola is a research assistant in the Mothers and Babies: Mood and Health research Mood lab, where she performs various tasks such as data analysis, synthesizing, and interpretation of data on their respective projects. Additionally, she is a DC CFAR scholar, where she works in the STEP research Lab with Dr. Conserve with a focus on HIV research and prevention in Washington DC, and Prince George's County.
Mallory Durkin is an alumnus of the George Washington University. She graduated in 2023 with a B.A. in International Affairs with a concentration in Global Public Health from the Elliott School of International Affairs. During her time at GW, Mallory worked as a team member at the STEP Lab, which focused on HIV research and community-based prevention initiatives in D.C. and Maryland. Currently, Mallory is pursuing a fellowship, working full-time at the University of Alaska on career development initiatives. In her free time she has continued to pursue her interest in using implementation science to promote health equity. She is volunteering as a research assistant on a food security initiative for rural Alaskan communities with the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
