In recent years, concerns have been raised about the increasing role of private equity in health care markets. The antitrust agencies have scrutinized the acquisitions and conduct of some private equity firms, and in June 2024, the FTC held a hearing on the role of private equity in health care. This panel will explore the role of antitrust enforcement in health care, including some of the following questions:

• What is the economic evidence regarding the potential harms and benefits of private equity in health care?
• What have government antitrust enforcers been doing with respect to private equity in health care?  Have things changed with the Trump Administration?
• Does private equity raise unique issues that should be addressed by antitrust enforcers?
• To the extent there are concerns with respect to private equity in health care, are they best addressed through antitrust or through other regulatory approaches?
