DESCRIPTION:GW Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Seminar will feature d
 istinguished speaker Helga Nolte\, Head of the Ombud Office at the Universi
 ty of Hamburg\, Germany\, and freelance mediator\, coach and trainer and Hj
 ördis Czesnick\, PhD\, Head of Office\, German Research Ombudsman\, Berlin\
 , Germany. They are Co-Chairs of the Working Group for the European Network
  of Research Integrity Offices\nHandbook on Whistleblowing.\n\nThe goal of 
 this interactive workshop is to create space for reflections about values a
 nd attitudes of science and the role of researchers. Attendees will learn t
 o develop appropriate solutions for difficult situations they may face as t
 hey conduct their research.\n\nThe workshop seeks to achieve the following 
 learning outcomes:\n\nsensitize for grey zones of questionable research pra
 ctice\;analyze typical scenarios and discuss practical options for handling
  problems\;reflect on responsibilities of various actors and emphasize the 
 importance of building a culture of research integrity\;impart knowledge ab
 out reporting mechanisms and informal and formal channels for discussing co
 ncerns in academic research settings\;raise awareness around tensions that 
 can arise for whistleblowers and how and when to seek support\;encourage re
 cognition of opportunities for change and improvement.This session is open 
 to faculty\, postdocs\, students\, and staff at GW\, Children’s National\, 
 and academic institutions in the D.C. region. It is designed to help attend
 ees meet the Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research training requireme
 nts set by the National Institutes of Health\, the National Science Foundat
 ion\, and other federal agencies.\n\nHosted by the GW Office of the Vice Pr
