DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Semi
 nar featuring distinguished speaker Helga Nolte\, Head of the Ombud Office 
 at the University of Hamburg\, Germany\, and freelance mediator\, coach and
  trainer and Hjördis Czesnick\, PhD\, Head of Office\, German Research Ombu
 dsman\, Berlin\, Germany. They are Co-Chairs of the Working Group for the E
 uropean Network of Research Integrity Offices\nHandbook on Whistleblowing.\
 n\n \n\nThe goal of this interactive workshop is to create space for reflec
 tions about values and attitudes of science and the role of researchers. At
 tendees will learn to develop appropriate solutions for difficult situation
 s they may face as they conduct their research.\n\n \n\nThe workshop seeks 
 to achieve the following learning outcomes:\n\nsensitize for grey zones of 
 questionable research practice\;analyze typical scenarios and discuss pract
 ical options for handling problems\;reflect on responsibilities of various 
 actors and emphasize the importance of building a culture of research integ
 rity\;impart knowledge about reporting mechanisms and informal and formal c
 hannels for discussing concerns in academic research settings\;raise awaren
 ess around tensions that can arise for whistleblowers and how and when to s
 eek support\;encourage recognition of opportunities for change and improvem
 ent. \n\nThis session is open to faculty\, postdocs\, students\, and staff 
 at GW\, Children’s National\, and academic institutions in the D.C. region.
  It is designed to help attendees meet the Responsible and Ethical Conduct 
 of Research training requirements set by the National Institutes of Health\
 , the National Science Foundation\, and other federal agencies.\n\nHosted b
 y the GW Office of the Vice Provost for Research and its Office of Research
