Curious about what it takes to land a design internship? Wondering what happens when you do? Join Corcoran Design students Madeleine Brown (Graphic Design BFA, 2024) and Alex Horowitz (Interaction Design & Computer Science BA, 2024), and alum Maggie Winters (Graphic Design BFA, 2013) as they discuss their past and present design internship experiences, expectations in the field, and offer advice on how to navigate the internship process. Snacks will be served!

Madeleine Brown (she/her) is a graphic design senior who has a passion for using her training to solve problems, impact change, and express conceptual ideas. Her works have focused on centering Black women’s voices and combating social issues such as educational inequality and food insecurity. Over the summer, she put her skills to practice and began a design internship at Mathematica, a data analytics, research, and consultancy company. Madeleine assists the creative group by designing materials that communicate data and research for client and company-based projects. She is continuing this internship during the fall semester.

Alex Horowitz (she/her) is a senior at George Washington University pursuing a BA double major in Interaction Design and Computer Science. With a passion for elevating user experiences with innovative design, Alex strives to help people break down barriers that inhibit their lives. For the last two summers, and now continuing through the school year, Alex has interned with Avangrid, a sustainable energy company, as a user experience designer on their customer experience team. After graduation, Alex will be working with Avangrid full time.

Maggie Winters (she/her) is a creative director, entrepreneur and human exclamation point. She is the co-founder of This January, a modern creative agency building next year’s most interesting brands.

The panel will be moderated by Marc Choi.
