As an urbanized, industrialized country, we rely on infrastructure that is half-aged and the other half web-enabled. As a result, we are battered by several converging challenges: a large inventory of aging infrastructue, a cyber-threatened, internet-reliant system, intense weather patterns driven by Climate Change, and a hodgepodge of regulatory challenges that increase costs for consumers and threaten future reliability. While these challenges will be discussed, more importantly, so will some of the solutions.
