The speaker will highlight the diverse textile weaving traditions of Syria and Lebanon through a curated display of over 300 rare and antique pieces from a private collection. From ceremonial wall hangings and prayer rugs to embroidered garments and weaving samples, students will engage with the cultural significance, techniques, and materials behind these textiles. The talk will also highlight ongoing efforts to preserve regional weaving heritage through international collaborations, including high-profile projects like A Gift for Queen Elizabeth II and educational initiatives with museums and UNESCO.
