About this Event
2000 H St NW, Washington DC 20052
Please join the Civil and Human Rights Law Clinic, co-counsel, and International & Comparative Law Program to learn about the Oliver Family’s petition to the Inter-American Commission being filed that morning with a panel of experts speaking about what happened that day, how it impacted them, and the work they are doing to prevent the gun violence epidemic from persisting in our country. The lawsuit this petition brings, filed on behalf of Joaquin Oliver, who was killed during the Parkland Gun Massacre, and his parents, is the first of its kind to claim the United States’s failure to regulate gun access and violence is a violation of human rights.
The event, including lunch, will be a panel discussion featuring Manny Oliver, father of Joaquin, Jon Lowy, founder of Global Action on Gun Violence, and Professor Carrillo, Director of the CHRL Clinic, along with commentary from invited dignitaries and experts.
