Dr. Nechumi Yaffe will share insights from her groundbreaking research on contemporary social and political trends among the Haredi/Ultra-Orthodox Jewish population in Israel. She is the first woman from the Ultra-Orthodox community in Israel to earn a doctorate from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and to join the faculty at Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Yaffe is a faculty member in the Department of Public Policy at Tel Aviv University. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University’s Daniel Kahneman Center for Human Values. Dr. Yaffe’s research examines identity, social norms and poverty within Haredi Jewish communities in Israel and the United States. Prior to her doctoral work, she served as an advisor for the Ultra-Orthodox educational system in Israel, where she authored the history curriculum and textbooks for use in Haredi high schools. Dr. Yaffe earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2018.
