In honor of Veterans Day, US Court of Appeals Chief Judge Kevin A. Ohlson will speak to the GW Law community on "What Constitutes 'Service' to Our Nation?" He will speak about his own experiences in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, as a federal prosecutor, Chief of Staff and Counselor to the U.S. Attorney General, and on the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
Kevin A. Ohlson Bio
Kevin A. Ohlson was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces by President Barack Obama on November 1, 2013.
Judge Ohlson was born and raised in Sterling, Massachusetts, and he attended Washington and Jefferson College on a four-year Army R.O.T.C. scholarship. While in college, Judge Ohlson successfully completed Air Assault training with the 101st Airborne Division, served as the commander of the R.O.T.C. corps of cadets, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Upon graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1985, Judge Ohlson attended the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School. He then successfully completed Airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was placed on jump-status at his next duty assignment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During the next four years, Judge Ohlson parachuted more than 30 times and into three foreign countries – Honduras, Jordan, and Egypt.
Chief Judge Ohlson has a long career in public service, including serving as a federal prosecutor, Special Counsel to the US Attorney, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice, and Chief of Staff and Counselor to the Attorney General.
