 dical education programs (both UME and GME) are accountable to the public 
 to train physicians who can deliver high-quality care. In order to keep th
 at promise\, programs must assess the quality of care their learners deliv
 er. Frequently\, this is done through rater-based assessment methods that 
 certainly provide value\, but may not reflect actual clinical care quality
 . To address this\, multiple approaches are being developed to bridge the 
 gap between clinical care measures and learner assessment. This presentati
 on will describe the rationale for using clinical care measures in assessm
 ent\, debate the benefits and challenges of multiple current approaches\, 
 and discuss what is on the horizon as technology continues to improve.\n\n
