Using the Linux shell is essential to the use of powerful tools and computing resources. Software Developers Dan Kerchner and Laura Wrubel will get you started using the shell to interact with Linux computers. Knowledge of this swiss-army knife of a tool will provide you with the background needed to use many powerful tools for research and data analysis.
No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders. This workshop is useful for anyone interested in programming and web related work or those who need to manipulate data.
Please bring a laptop to this workshop. If you’re bringing a Windows laptop, please install PuTTY beforehand. If you don’t have a laptop, we will have a few extra on hand.
