Join the GW France Alumni Network for a Paris Founding Fathers Walking Tour : Jefferson, Franklin & the American Founding Fathers. Led by Brad Newfield, the tour group will meet in front of the Hotel Crillon at 15:00.
The tour starts on the Concorde square where Benjamin Franklin signed the Treaty of Alliance and France was the first to recognize the independence of the U.S. We will walk through the Tuileries Garden and cross the Seine to the statue of Jefferson near one of Jefferson's favorite buildings, the Palace of the Legion of Honor. We will continue along the Left Bank and hear stories of Voltaire, Lafayette, Jefferson's favorite artists, the aristocratic salons. We will see the French Institute, the Mint, a house turned into a Masonic Lodge, and one of Jefferson's favorite bookshops. We will wind up the tour at the city's oldest café, the Procope, frequented by Franklin and the Enlightenment philosophers.
The tour is roughly 2 hours and will include a 15 minute break at the halfway point. Tickets for the tour is 10€ or $10.57, per person. Comfortable clothes and shoes for walking are strongly encouraged. This event open to all GW alumni, parents and friends.
About our tour guide, Brad Newfield is a native English-speaking Tour Guide with a Carte Professionnelle de Guide-Conférencier. He has a Ph.D in History from UCLA and has been living and working in Paris for the last 19 years. Since 1998, Brad has primarily worked with Paris Walks, the premier walking tour company in Paris. He often works as a consultant and Guide for Rick Steves and his European tour company as well as other international tour companies. Brad has been highly recommended as a guide many times on Trip Advisor and in newspaper articles, magazine reviews, travel websites and television programs in the United States, the UK and France.
