Sargent's Women: Art as Biography

Donna M. Lucey

Open to GW students, staff, alumni, and faculty

The New York Times bestselling author Donna M. Lucey will discuss her latest book, Sargent’s Women: Four Lives Behind the Canvas. Drawing upon original letters and diaries, Lucey illuminates the extraordinary lives of four women painted by the iconic Gilded Age artist John Singer Sargent. The women all inhabited a rarefied world of wealth and strict conventions, yet each one managed to do something unexpected, something shocking, to upend society’s rules.
